Ladies, do you need a weekend away from it all? Have you ever fancied hiking in the beauty of the Lake District but never had the opportunity? Get ready to disconnect from reality and spend a weekend soul searching, eating home cooked delicious healthy food, watching the stars, sharing laughs around the campfire and taking in some magnificent scenery as you hike through the beauty of the Langdale Valley.

 

I’d never spent time in the Lake District, let alone hiked there, till just over 4 years ago. I thought I was the kind of girl that needed a luxury 5 * resort in order to unwind but boy was I wrong! I don’t think I have ever felt so peaceful and relaxed as when I’m walking over the fells and mountains surrounded by some of the most beautiful and scenic views. I come to the Lakes when I need to clear my mind, to think and to reflect. As a holistic health coach I believe that a balanced life is more than just eating enough fruit and veg. It’s about the whole package, mind, body and soul. I would love for you to come and join me for a weekend of good wholesome food, peace and tranquility and fantastic hiking.

This retreat is designed so that not only do you get to enjoy a weekend of good food, good company and no doubt some much needed relaxation, but that you also leave having experienced a sense of achievement. That you leave less afraid to experience new adventures and more inclined to live life to it’s fullest.

What’s included in the package:

  • Your accommodation for the weekend, Friday and Saturday night, in a traditional Nordic Tipi which includes its own log burning stove. The tipi’s are situated on a National Trust campsite with excellent facilities. This experience is about being in the simple tranquility of nature. Listening to birdsong as you wake. Watching the sunset behind the mountains as the campfire blazes. (Tipi’s are priced on a sharing basis – 3 people to a tipi) For more info on the accommodation click here
  • Group workshops with IIN certified health and wellness coach Paula. In the sessions we’ll look at simple but effective practises to help support you in achieving that balance of mind, body and soul.
  • Guided full day hiking experience in the Langdale Valley with experienced Mountain Leader Cliff Lowther. We’ll be taking in the amazing views and scenery as we climb up out of the valley and up onto the top of the hills. If the weather is good enough we might be able to stop for a cooling afternoon swim in the tarn before descending back down to the valley below. Don’t forget your camera for this one!
  • All your meals, which will be home cooked, healthy options. We will also be providing a packed lunch for the walk on the Saturday. The only meal not included in the price is your Saturday evening meal as we will be heading up to the pub for a post walk feast and maybe even a cheeky tipple!

Food

Part of a relaxing and holistic weekend away has to be the food. It needs to be delicious and comforting which is how I’ve designed the menu. All of your meals (apart from Saturday evening) will be freshly prepared, home cooked delicious healthy options. There will also be an array of cakes and sweet treats (all gluten, dairy and refined sugar free – of course) for the duration of your stay for you to help yourself to as and when you choose.

Acommodation

The tipi’s are set in their own private corner on a beautiful National trust campsite. I chose this venue simply because of it’s rustic charm and tranquility. The view at sunrise and sunset is simply stunning. The tipi’s are on a raised up wooden platfrom and have floor coverings. They have a beautiful snug log burning stove inside and retain the heat very well keeping them not only warm and cosy but also dry.

The tipi’s are just a short stroll to the amenties and there is an excellent shop on site should you require any last minute essentials. The shower block has electrical outlets for hair drying etc and we will be bringing a battery pack for anyone needing to charge a phone.

We also have an extra large communal tent for the duration of the weekend which provides with a space to relax and eat should the weather not be as kind as we would like. We fill the tent with fairy lights, cushions and rugs (think Arabian night) and it also has it’s own log burning stove to keep us snug and warm.

Example Itinerary

 

Friday

Guests will arrive from 4pm onwards on the Friday. We’ll have cake and tea/coffee at the ready so you can quickly get into relaxation mode. There will be time to get settled in, meet the other guests and familiarise yourself with this stunning area.

Once all the guests have arrived and settled we will begin our first workshop. This will be followed by a delicious freshly prepared dinner. The rest of the evening is yours to relax as you choose. Watch the sunset whilst drinking hot chocolate round the campfire or simply curl up with a good book without a care in the world.

Saturday

Saturday morning we’ll be serving breakfast at around 8.00am. If the weather is kind we will dine al fresco and enjoy the beautiful scenery as we eat. There’ll be an array of fresh fruit, cereal, porridge (a must for hikers!) and a cooked breakfast option.

After breakfast we’ll head up an out of the valley, led by our experienced mountain leader Cliff Lowther, and very quickly will be taking in some exquisite views. If you have never hiked before it’s at this point that you’ll quickly realise why it is has become one of my favourite past times and why I often find myself craving being back on the hills.

Once at the top of the valley we will be stopping for  a leisurely picnic lunch. The afternoon will be spent further exploring the area before making our descent back into the valley. Later that evening we’re off to the local pub for a delicious well earned meal and a cheeky glass of vino (or two!).  I guarantee you’ll be feeling more chilled out than you’ve ever been.

Sunday

Sunday morning begins again with another delicious freshly made breakfast before we take a gentle walk up to the beautiful Blea Tarn. If the weather is good the tarn is also just perfect for a cooling swim! It’s a fantastic place to simply sit back and take in the beautiful scenary around you.

We will eventually head back down into camp where a light Mediterranean style lunch will have been prepared for us to enjoy. At around 14.30 we will say our goodbyes leaving you plenty of time to visit some of the beautiful villages en route home such as Ambleside and Grasmere. I know these places well and am more than happy to recommend cafes etc.

F.A.Q

 

Do I need to be an experienced walker to take part in the retreat?

Not at all. The walk is designed at a beginners level. Our experienced Mountain Leader, Cliff Lowther, has suggested that in order to fully enjoy the experience particpants should be able to comfortably be able to walk 10miles on flat ground (approx 4 hours) without any real concerns. This weekend is designed for those that have little to no experience of hiking and who want to take the opportunity to try it. Also no need to find a friend…we have a bunch of like minded lovely people all coming together who simply want to bring a little adventure into their lives.

 

Will I need to bring any specialist equipment?

A recommended packing list is provided but other than a sleeping bag and a camping mat the only other items of equipment we would recommend would be a comfortable pair of walking boots and a good waterproof jacket (it may be June but it is the Lake District!).

 

How will I get there? 

If you arriving by car the journey is approx 2 hours from Scotch Corner Services on the A1. We will be providing full directions of how to get there. There will also be a private Facebook Group for guests to get know each other prior to the event and it may be that a car share opportunity might be available.

If you are arriving via public transport then trains to the Lake District terminate at Windermere railway station. From Windermere take the 505 or 599 bus to Ambleside and we will be more than happy to arrange a free transfer.

Are you able to cater for special dietary requirements?

All of the food available during your stay will be vegetarian (vegan options available), gluten, dairy and refined sugar free. If you have any additional dietary requirements then please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

 

Will the tipi’s be warm enough?

Each of the tipi’s has a log burning stove which keeps it toasty warm and dry. These aren’t like a normal tent. They are raised up off the ground on a wooden platform and are built to withstand the elements for that time of year. This is much more like glamping than camping.  The lady who owns the tipi’s actually lives in one all year round! For further info on the tipi’s simply follow this link.

 

Where can I charge my phone?

Don’t worry! We will be bringing a power pack for charging phones. Also in the shower block there are electrical points for hair dryers etc.
